Which Enneagram Type Matches Your Personality?

Some people hear about the Enneagram on a Monday and by Friday have given a number to everyone in the office.

What is the Enneagram, in plain words?

It is a model that sorts people into nine types. Each type is built around one thing you want most and one thing you fear most. It is popular in workshops, book clubs and team retreats. Research has not backed it up the way it has some other models. So use it as a way to talk about yourself, not as a proven fact.

Why does this quiz show only four types?

Fifteen questions cannot sort you into nine types with any care. So this quiz is a short taste of the system, not the whole thing. It picks four types that are easy to tell apart. The questions ask what you fear, how you show love and what you do when things get tense. That is on purpose, because the Enneagram cares more about why you act than what you do. If none of the four fits, you may belong to one of the five that are not here.

What if I always put other people first?

That points to The Helper. You text a friend on the morning of their big day without being asked. You notice who has an empty glass before they do. Saying no feels close to being rude, so your own plans often slide to make room for someone else's.

What if I need to be alone to think?

That sounds like The Investigator. You read three reviews before you buy a kettle. At a party you are happy in a corner with one person and a long talk. When life gets loud, you go quiet and sort it out in your head first. Only then do you share what you think.

What if I chase fun, or push back hard?

Those are two different types. The Enthusiast says yes to the trip, the class and the new cafe, often in the same week. You get bored fast and keep a list of next plans so the dull days never catch up. The Challenger takes charge when things go wrong. You say the hard thing out loud, stand up for the people you love and bristle when someone bosses you around.

One thing to notice this week: when you feel tense, what do you reach for first? It might be a person to help, a quiet room, a new plan or a fight you mean to win. That first reach says more about your type than any one answer here.

I keep a soft spot for this model, even with its limits, because it starts good talks. Hold the result up like a mirror and smile at what you see. Nobody is diagnosing anything here.
